  • Accountable for the technical quality and accuracy of work performed.
  • Works under general supervision.  Receives broad guidelines, working within defined standards and specifications.
  • Manages own time.
  • Exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting information.
  • May represent MH technical know-how at external event/conference.
  • Reviews work of more junior staff.
  • Performs all technical service delivery as a form of business development and technical development.
  • First level contact with clients.
  • Drives profitability for Department.
  • Develops political skills and learns to influence clients to meet mutual goals.

Responsibilities - Technical:

  • Certify professional work.
  • Writing proposals and establishing financial budgets.
  • Performs project contract drawing reviews (drawings, specifications, shop drawings, material submittals, etc.).
  • Preparing contract drawings and specifications in conjunction with project team for delivery to clients.
  • Reviews and reports on project mock-ups.
  • Performs periodic site visits and utilize a site visit reporting system to identify and update action items.
  • Performing engineering analysis and calculations, e.g., quantities, initiating or checking design elements, etc.
  • Carrying out field investigation work and the diagnosis of building problems required to design building envelope or structural repairs.
  • Performs field testing to confirm building enclosure performance (water, air leakage, EFVM, infrared testing, etc.).
  • Assists in small project management and coordination.
  • Performs building condition assessments, building envelope rehabilitation, concrete restoration, and building enclosure related projects.
  • Participates in continuing education.
  • Performs various office related tasks.
  • Periodic out of province travel.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Engineering, Building Technology, Construction Management, Architecture or related field.
  • Pursuing professional registration either as a P.Eng. or CET is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Building Science principles or Building Envelope components.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks on multiple projects.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, and other engineering and office related application software.
  • An interest in construction, the performance of buildings, field review/investigation, and materials science.
  • Experience writing construction specifications
  • Experience writing and reviewing construction contracts.
  • Experience on building construction sites.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong customer service commitment.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Professional attitude with strong problem-solving capability.
  • Commitment to succeed.
  • Interest in continued learning/education is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
