Stifel FirstEnergy is seeking an individual with extensive knowledge of the oil & gas industry and an ongoing interest in capital markets to join its Institutional Equity Research team. Reporting to the Head of Research, the individual will be expected to select, analyze and project long-term values of stocks under coverage, make buy and sell recommendations, develop and maintain financial models and publish research reports.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Create reports, conduct research, analyze financial information, and make predictions regarding financial matters.
  • Creation and maintenance of earnings, valuation and industry models leveraging skills in accounting, finance and economics.
  • Present ideas and findings to sales, trading, and buyside clients – strong communication skills are necessary.
  • Develop a network within corporate Canada, build and maintain strong working relationships with issuers.
  • Use quantitative and qualitative methods to identify investment opportunities including new coverage ideas.
  • Collaborate with colleagues globally on sector specific and other thematic work.
  • Interest in and ability to leverage all available resources to create differentiated content for writing research reports (company-specific or industry)
  • Conduct industry diligence and primary research through surveys, expert conference calls, and various channel checks to evaluate industry trends.
  • Provide internal sales and trading teams timely analysis of breaking news in the sector.

Qualifications


A high regard for detail and accuracy are essential. The role is challenging and fast-paced. It requires dedication, passion for the industry, and a solid work ethic.

  • CFA and/or MBA and/or B. Comm. and/or CPA;
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years of full time equity research work experience;
  • Oil & gas background, including education and related experience is a must have;
  • Corporate/Buy side relationships;
  • Sell side equity research experience;
  • Ability to prepare extensive reports and present findings to companies with clear and concise action advice;
  • Advanced speaking and report-writing skills for effective communication;
  • Skills in primary research, interviewing and data gathering;
  • Strong quantitative skills with comprehensive understanding of accounting, equity analysis, valuation and financial modeling;
  • Creativity with respect to investment analysis and a passionate interest in capital markets;
  • Ability to work under a high pressure and time sensitive environment;
  • Meticulous attention to detail while maintaining an ability to see the overall picture;
  • Desire to join and help build a winning team.
